No Longer a Bumblebee

Not sure how I feel about this. But today, I found out that Gabby is no longer a bumblebee. That is, she is no longer a member of the Bumblebee class at 'school.' She has officially been moved up to the Creepy Crawler room. Mind you, she is only 28 inches tall, less than 19 lbs in weight and clearly the smallest Creepy Crawler in history. She also wasn't supposed to officially move over until June 1. So, why the early transition? They tell me that her transition has gone so well that she is ready to move. Supposedly she naps better on the mats with the Creepy Crawlers than she ever did in her Bumblebee crib. She eats better too - even feeds herself. She is not intimidated by the size of the other kids in the slightest, which I can only attribute to so much exposure to her 90th percentile twin cousins. She loves going outside too, which the Creepy Crawlers always do. And, she doesn't seem to be missing her Bumblebee teachers too much. So there you have it, she is no longer in the "baby room" and I am feeling a bit emotional about that.

Does this mean that she is no longer a baby but rather a toddler? She just barely turned one and already I am finding myself reminicing about when she was a newborn. Where has the time gone? Can't it slow down, just a little bit?

I guess that I should be happy about this transition. It has been relatively smooth for her, which is what is most important. Although she shows some stranger anxiety with me, she doesn't seem to be doing the same with her teachers, which is also good I suppose. Yet, I feel so torn. Gone are the days of many bottles and the non-chokeable finger foods that came next. Now she needs lunch and snacks! All too soon she will be running wild with the other kids rather than wobbly walking behind them as she does now.

And my suspicion that there will be more boo-boos has already been confirmed with a call from her new Creepy Crawler teacher who just informed me over the phone that Gabby slid off of the slide in such a way that she again has another black eye. Ay Ay Ay. Another visit from the Black Eyed Pea.

I find myself screaming inside, beggin her to slow down and not grow up so fast. I heard it over and over again while I was pregnant - they grow so fast. It is true.
